Internal security will impose real identification numbers from May 7.

Travelers without real identification numbers may be delayed or prohibited from entering the security checkpoints.
Travelers to the United States could have their vacations this summer if they do not provide a real ID.
The May 7th deadline set by internal security is quickly approaching, which means that adults who get on domestic flights will no longer be able to use their old driving licenses as identification.
But what happens if you get to TSA’s security checkpoint without a true ID? Here’s all you need to know.
What is a real identifier?
The actual identification numbers were a recommendation from the September 11 Commission, established in 2002 with former President George Bush, for the federal government, to “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driving licenses and identification cards.”
In addition to the board of domestic commercial flights, real identifiers will be required to provide access to certain federal facilities and nuclear power plants.
The US Congress has officially adopted the Act on the Real ID in 2005. However, the federal government has delayed the application of real identification numbers several times in the last two decades. Although real identifiers are a form of identification, internal security has said that it is not considered evidence of citizenship.

Unlike previous identity cards, the true identifier will have a star marking in the upper half of the card.
“If the card does not have stars, it is not actually compatible with ID and will not be accepted as evidence of an identity aboard commercial aircraft,” internal security said.
However, there are variations. Depending on the condition, Real IDS may include a gold star, black star, a gold circle with a white star or a black circle with a white star.
In California, Real IDS has an image of a golden grizzly bear with a white star. Interior security announced on April 24 that New York Real IDS, improved licenses and identification cards will have a star or flag of the United States.
How to get a real ID?
The process of acquiring a true identifier varies depending on the state.
For example, obtaining a true Alaska identification number means applying personally to an office of a motor vehicle department in Alaska and providing a basic document showing specific information, including the birth name and US citizenship status.
In Texas, people can apply personally for a real card compatible with ID in the Texas Department of Public Safety. Some may have the right to renew their driver’s license or identity card online.
At least, internal security stated that people should show documents showing their full legal name, date of birth, social security, two evidence of the main residence address and legal status to receive a true identification number.
As Business Insider reported, some people who have changed their names through marriage or divorce have problems collecting the necessary documents to apply for the Real ID.
The Homeland Security website provides a true identification card that allows users to click on their status for more information.
Can you apply for a real ID after the deadline on May 7?
Although internal security will start applying real identification numbers on May 7, people can apply at any time. Those who do not have a real ID card until this date may face problems traveling to the United States and lose access to certain federal buildings.

Can you fly without a real ID after May 7?
Adult flying in the country in the United States can show an alternative form of identification. The Transport Security Administration does not require children under 18 to provide travel identification within the United States.
The Agency’s website shared a list of accepted identification options, including US passports, US passport cards issued by the state improved driving licenses (EDL) and others. In April, however, TSA said the temporary paper card given to DMV candidates would not be accepted.
If passengers do not have an acceptable ID card, an employee of TSA “may ask you to complete an identity check process that involves collecting information like your name and current address to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening control point where you may be subjected to additional screening.”
“You will not be allowed to enter the security checkpoint if you decide not to provide acceptable identification, you refuse to collaborate with the identity verification process or your identity cannot be confirmed,” the TSA website said.
Interior security added that passengers trying to fly without appropriate identification “expect to face delays, additional screening and the ability to not be allowed at the security control point.”
